47a — Lead Us Not into Temptation
The Ultimate Temptation —
Listen as Pastor Joe Boyd of Southbrook Christian Church explains how to use the last request of the Lord’s Prayer — “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” — as an opportunity to review the entire prayer.
After all, maybe the ultimate temptation is to forget what we’ve just prayed and not apply it to our individual lives.
Temptation #1 — To pray about “me” instead of “our” and live a me-centered life.
Temptation #2 — To not believe that God loves me like a father and is close.
Temptation #3 — To neglect honoring (hallowing) God in my daily choices.
Temptation #4 — To become pessimistic and stop joining God in his work around the world.
Temptation #5 — To be satisfied and forget about the needy.
Temptation #6 — To judge others harshly for the same sins I commit like envy and jealousy.
My Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil of not applying the things we’ve just prayed. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
