Enrichment Activities for Weave Your Word in Me

Why I Want the Holy Spirit to Fill My Life —

There are many things in our world that we trust even though we can’t see them with our eyes — things like electricity, for example. We can’t see electricity, but we do experience its effect through electric lights and electrically-powered machines. Also, most of us can’t explain how electricity works, but we sure do depend on it and appreciate it, because it makes our lives better.

The same is true of the Holy Spirit. We can’t see Him with our eyes and He is quite difficult to explain, but that doesn’t mean we don’t see the effects of His work in our lives and depend on Him to make our lives better.

Here are a couple of other analogies that you can use to teach others about the Holy Spirit.

1– Magnet and Car Analogy: Hide a magnet behind a piece of cardboard and use it to move a metal object or car on top. Explain that just like the magnet’s invisible force, the Holy Spirit is unseen, yet active and powerful.

2– Radio Analogy: Turn on an old transistor radio and then use the tuning button to listen to voices or music. Our human hearts are similar to a radio. The Holy Spirit broadcasts God’s truth, peace, and guidance just like a radio transmits sound waves. We can choose to “tune in” through prayer and meditation (thinking about) God’s Word.

3– Stop Light Analogy: The uneasy feeling we get when doing something wrong is like a “red light” from the Holy Spirit, while a peaceful inner nudge to show kindness is like a “green light”.

4– The Helper in Action: Read Galatians 5:22–25 on the fruit of the Spirit. Discuss how patience or self-control isn’t just trying harder on your own, but letting the Helper inside give you supernatural power —

My Prayer

Dearest Holy Spirit, Thank you for coming to live inside me. I believe my life is better when I allow you to be an active part of everything I do. As a result, I give you permission to fill my life with your desires and to shape my priorities. Thank you for helping me grow in this area. I want to soak you up! Amen.
