Enrichment Activities for Weave Your Word in Me
Why I Want the Holy Spirit to Fill My Life —
There are many things in our world that we trust even though we can’t see them with our eyes — one of them is electricity. We can’t see electricity, but we experience its effect when we use electric lights or appliances. Also, most of us can’t explain how electricity works, but we sure do depend on it and appreciate it — because of how it makes our lives better. The same is true of the Holy Spirit. We can’t see him with our eyes and he is quite difficult to explain, but that doesn’t mean we don’t see the effect of his work in our lives and gladly depend on him to make our lives better.
Using another analogy, it’s like we have a Super Hero with supernatural powers living inside us — because in truth, we do!
Have you ever stopped to think that things like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control don’t come naturally to us? In fact, these qualities are God-like or supernatural in nature. When others are acting like jerks or we are frustrated and having a bad day, the Holy Spirit is glad to share his supernatural abilities with us. And what a difference it makes! Exercising patience and self-control over my emotions when I would rather just scream at others in frustration, or hit them, or give-up and go home, now that’s real power — God power! And it comes through depending on the Holy Spirit and allowing him to use his supernatural powers in us.
My Prayer
Dearest Holy Spirit, Thank you for coming to live inside me. Even though I can’t see you with my eyes, I know that you are right here with me because of the changes you are making in my life. Help me to trade my self-centered way of doing things with your supernatural God qualities. Help me to remember to reach out to you for help when I need to share in your supernatural powers. I love working with you for God’s glory. Amen.Tidbit
