Imitate Hard Working Ants —

King Solomon knew plenty of people who liked to take it easy, who really didn’t want to work very hard. In fact, he had a pet name for them: sluggards. It wasn’t a compliment . . . it means lazy . . . it’s what we might call a “couch potato.”

To coax these people out of their unproductive lifestyles, Solomon wrote these words of advice in Proverbs 6:6-8:

“Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.
Without having any chief, officer, or ruler,
she prepares her bread in summer
and gathers her food in harvest.”

My Prayer

Dearest Father, Thank you for the example of hard-working ants — so small, but so wise — tirelessly using their time and talents to accomplish the work you’ve given them to do. I’m especially amazed that they are so self-motivated and yet work well together as a team. When I’m tempted to be lazy, help me remember their powerful example. Amen.
