Chuck Colson was the chief counsel for President Richard Nixon from 1969 to 1973. Because he was very effective at identifying and attacking political enemies of the President, he became known as Nixon’s hatchet man.

In 1971, Colson helped organized the break-in of a psychiatrist’s office in Washington D.C. hoping to gather unfavorable information about one of these men who opposed the President. This illegal act was discovered as part of the Watergate scandal and ended in the impeachment of Nixon.

As a result of admitting his guilt, Chuck was convicted of obstruction of justice and served seven months in a federal prison in Alabama. Yet it was through this humbling ordeal that he became a devout follower of Christ and emerged from prison as a public speaker, author, and advocate for Christian prison ministry.

My Prayer

Dearest Father, Thank you that you took a horrible situation and used it to open Chuck Colson’s eyes to understand what Jesus had done for him. Thank you that as a result, Chuck was able to let go of his own self-righteousness and trade it for freedom from sin through faith in your Son. Thank you for the vision you gave Chuck to reach out to prisoners all over the world with this same good news. Please send others to continue his great work. Amen.
