57c — Covet the Right Things

Are Strong Desires Always Bad?

God wants us to have strong desires, but our desires must be for the right things — things that:
1) don’t belong to others, and
2) don’t replace our loyalty and love for God.

King David described how he coveted an authentic face-to-face relationship with God in Psalm 42. This is what he said:

“As the deer pants for streams of water,

so my soul pants for you, my God.

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.

When can I go and meet with God?”  Psalm 42:1-2 NIV

What a great thing to covet!

So here is the bottom line about coveting: as you desire and pursue an authentic face-to-face relationship with God, remember that he will help you identify and control negative desires that arise in your life — those covetous desires that need to change.
